Ecuador

Ecuador, ist eine Republik im Nordwesten Südamerikas zwischen Kolumbien und Peru und hat etwa 15 Millionen Einwohner. Die im Andenhochland auf 2850 m gelegene Hauptstadt heißt Quito; die größte Stadt Guayaquil liegt in der Pazifikküsten-Ebene. Das Land ist nach der Äquatorlinie benannt, die durch das Staatsgebiet verläuft, wobei sich der Großteil desselben in der südlichen Hemisphäre befindet. Die zu Ecuador gehörenden Galápagos-Inseln befinden sich zwischen 928 km und 1272 km westlich der Küste im Pazifik.
