Scientists say Antarctica’s Hektoria Glacier has undergone the fastest ice retreat ever recorded – losing five miles of ice in just two months between November and December 2022. The new study, published on November 3, recorded the glacier shrank a total of 15.5 miles between January 2022 and March 2023. The research has provided insight into glacial retreat – and stark implications for the rate of global sea level rise.
