The new all-electric BMW i3 is built at the BMW Group’s Munich plant—the company’s historic home facility, where BMW has been manufacturing vehicles for over a century. It was here that the first BMW 3 Series rolled off the assembly line in 1975. In 2026, the site will enter a new era with the arrival of the first all-electric BMW 3 Series. A year later, the Munich plant will transition its entire production portfolio exclusively to all-electric vehicles from the „Neue Klasse“ (New Class) lineup. The new BMW 3 Series, equipped with a highly efficient internal combustion engine, is manufactured at the BMW Group’s Dingolfing plant—the company’s largest production site in Europe. The core components for the all-electric powertrain, as well as the internal combustion engines for the new BMW 3 Series, are produced at the BMW Group’s Steyr plant in Austria. The high-voltage batteries are supplied by the new BMW Group plant in Irlbach-Straßkirchen, located in Lower Bavaria.
