James Cleverly knocked out of race to lead UK Conservative Party

In a surprise outcome, the UK’s former Foreign Secretary James Cleverly is eliminated from the race to become the next leader of the Conservative Party, with Kemi Badenoch and Robert Jenrick securing the votes needed among MPs to go to the final run-off round which will be decided by Conservative Party members. The winner will replace Rishi Sunak as leader, following the party’s loss in July’s general election to Keir Starmer’s Labour Party. SOUNDBITE
