The bodies of South African soldiers killed during the M23 armed group’s capture of Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are handed over to their families in a ceremony in Centurion, South Africa. Their flag-draped coffins were loaded onto hearses by military personnel ahead of a memorial service set to be attended by President Cyril Ramaphosa. The return of the mortal remains has been particularly awaited, 11 days after the first of them died in the lightning advance of the M23 and Rwandan troops in eastern DRC. Some were deployed as part of a UN mission, others under the SADC (Southern Africa Regional Cooperation Organization) mission. IMAGES
