Tourists at the Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area in Jiaozuo, Henan Province, were left stranded on a via ferrata cliff face on June 20 after a sudden and intense downpour struck shortly after 3pm, making the steep rock surface treacherously slippery. Staff suspended ticket sales, deployed climbing instructors onto the mountain and distributed raincoats to frightened climbers before guiding everyone down in an orderly evacuation.
