A 20-year-old Polish climber was airlifted to safety with moments to spare on October 1 after spending 12 hours hanging from a safety rope on the Dent du Géant in the Mont Blanc massif, with a French rescue helicopter only able to reach him during a brief gap in the severe weather — with one rescuer saying another minute would have made it impossible.
