Japan’s Health Ministry has confirmed that the number of people aged 100 or over in the country has surpassed 100,000 for the first time, with a total of 107,677 centenarians recorded — an increase of 7,914 from the previous year and a rise sustained for 56 consecutive years since records began with just 153 centenarians in 1963.
