Video: Ed Sheeran plays surprise acoustic gig on street in hometown

Pop superstar Ed Sheeran treated fans to a surprise acoustic gig close to his hometown this morning. The Suffolk-born star performed a six-song set on the Ipswich waterfront this morning (June 5) after posting a teaser online. Hundreds of fans flocked to the streets to watch the singer-songwriter perform hits such as Thinking Out Loud, Shape of You and The A Team. During the performance, Sheeran, 35, gave a shoutout to the kids missing school and cheekily apologised to their parents. Sheeran, who has moved to America, said: „I’m so happy to be back home“. He also gifted an Orange Amp, used by music legends such as Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, to young fan Felix – who was on his way to the dentist. The nine-year-old brought his own guitar along to watch the popstar and said he wanted to be like Sheeran when he grew up. Signing off the 45-minute set, Sheeran added: „I hope you have a fabulous summer and I’m looking forward to the Premier League next season.“ Sheeran was born and raised in Framlingham and is a minority shareholder in Premier League football club Ipswich Town. He moved to the States last year but still has two properties in the UK, including the multi-million pound estate dubbed „Sheeranville“. In May, it was revealed Sheeran would be funding a new youth centre in his hometown of Framlingham which would offer an art studio, gym and rehearsal space. He also purchased two neighbouring terraced cottages Walberswick on the Suffolk coast and received planning permission to convert them into a single five-bedroom home.
