Kerala’s Aranmula Uthrattathi Jala Mela riverboat festival got under way on August 30 with 51 palliyodams — ornate temple-associated snake boats — racing on the Pamba River near the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple as large crowds gathered along the banks to watch.
